Cluster
Studies Group
Julius Jellinek (Ph.D., The Weizmann
Institute of Science, Israel) is
a Senior Scientist and the Group Leader of the Cluster Studies Group.
He carries out theoretical studies of metal cluster structure, phases
and
phase changes, cluster fragmentation, electronic properties, and the
dynamics of reactions of clusters with molecules. The theorists and
experimentalists work interactively to advance the understanding of
clusters and cluster-molecule systems.
Mark B. Knickelbein (Ph.D., University
of California, Davis) is a
Chemist. His interests center on molecular spectroscopy and
photodissociation studies of isolated metal clusters using molecular
beam and laser techniques. These studies are aimed at probing the
electronic structure of isolated metal clusters. Work is also underway
on the use of synchrotron radiation to determine the structures of
clusters and alloyed clusters.
Stefan Vajda (Ph.D., Charles University,
Prague) is a Chemist.
His expertise includes chemical reactions of clusters, femtosecond
laser spectroscopy of clusters in the gas phase and laser controlled
cluster dynamics. His current research is oriented on the study of
the chemical properties of metal clusters. Work is in progress on the
use of synchrotron radiation for the characterization of deposited clusters.
