Successful Partnership Recognized by Council for Chemical Research
The Council for Chemical Research (CCR) has recognized Luis Nuņez and Michael Kaminski of Argonne's Chemical Engineering Division (CMT) for their successful work with SourceTech Medical to rapidly commercialize I-125 Implant Seeds for treating prostate cancer.
CCR's Action Network for Research Collaboration each year selects, from the CCR membership, successful collaborations between universities, industry, and government laboratories (at least two of the three sectors). The collaborations are publicized to help articulate the success of interactions between the three sectors under increasingly tight budgets, and the resulting benefits to the research community and the country.
This is the second such award for Argonne; in 2000, Victor Maroni (CMT) was recognized for his work with two other national laboratories, a university, and a small business to commercialize high-temperature superconducting wire.
The highly successful collaboration between Argonne and SourceTech Medical was recognized as one of the top 10 innovations of 2002 in the Chicago Innovation Awards, sponsored by the Chicago Sun Times and Kuczmarski and Associates of Chicago.
